A Brief Overview
Responsible for providing perfusion services defined as those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Selects the appropriate equipment and techniques to be used. Acknowledges the necessity to participate in ongoing professional and educational development due to evolving technology. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Responsible for providing perfusion services as indicated per defined standards and protocols. Performs advanced technical work in the selection, preparation, operation, and maintenance of the heart/lung machine and accessory equipment.
- Nurtures and maintains communication with the surgical team to insure optimal patient care.
- Ensures appropriate function of all equipment through routine cleaning and maintenance.
- Facilitates the delivery of high quality patient care through diligent evaluation of current processes and opportunities for improvement. Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures. Implements quality improvement processes for enhances patient care and outcomes.
- Demonstrates personal development by utilizing available resources to maintain the accepted standard of care.
- Performs non-clinical/office duties such as participating in capital purchase decisions and coordinating and submitting patient charges.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Required - Master's Degree Cardiovascular Perfusion
Work Experience Requirements
- Required - Perfusion 1-3 years
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Required - Heartsaver CPR AED - American Heart Association
- Required - Certified Clinical Perfusionist - American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
- Required - Clinical Perfusionists Tennessee - Tennessee Committee for Clinical Perfusionist
- Preferred - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of concepts and principles in the field of perfusion services.
- Ability to operate related perfusion equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interact effectively with others, including medical and nursing staff, patients and families.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others’ work flow.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities for this position.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
